The city of Morelia, Michoacán has had a musical tradition since the New Spain period. They exist both in the Cathedral of Morelia and in institutions such as the Conservatory of Roses, a repertoire from this period that includes works of a religious and secular nature. In the 20th century, teacher Miguel Bernal Jiménez, founder of the Conservatorio de las Rosas, in addition to finding an important archive from that period, was the founder of a musical movement of a religious nature that spread to several regions of the country due to his former students. Therefore, the proposal to hold the 1st Moreliana Religious Music Festival 2024 is to publicize the repertoire of these alumni and, given their religious musical characteristics, frame it in the celebrations of Easter week in 2024.
The works comprise instrumental and choral music and a day of lectures from April 1 to 6 this year.
